The young recruit from Alabama was attending Airborne School at Fort Benning and on the third week it was time to jump out of the airplane. He was the first one in line to go out the door and the jumpmaster said "Son, remember to count to four real slow and then look up to see if your parachute has opened. If it hasn't opened reach down and pull your reserve and it will surely open. When you land on the ground there will be a truck to drive you 20 miles back to the mess hall for lunch". So the time came and the kid jumps out the door and counts "1001, 1002, 1003, 1004" and looks up and sees no parachute. He remembers what the jumpmaster told him and calmly reaches for the handle on his reserve and whips it out. To his astonishment nothing happens.
He then looks down and all around and mutters " I bet there ain't gonna be no truck either".
