A buddy took me turkey hunting for the first time last year, spring of 2010. We have Merriams here in the Black Hills. The very first evening we had birds responding and coming in, just not close enough. 5 outings later I got my first ever tom. My buddy called one in and it came in to his field of fire. My buddy shot him. We figured we were done for the morning. As we were taking pictures and getting ready to hike back to the truck, we heard a gobble. We quickly setup again and my bird somehow materialized like a ghost out of no where at 17 yards.
Then on 4/21/11 I got this guy. 42 yards, he had hens and didn't want to come any closer. He is a little heavier but shorter beard. This fun stuff!
