New to the 338 edge family, with lots of ???

About 10 years ago I bought a Canyon Rifle from Shawn Carlock. This was before his LRKM and +P chambers came out. I just started load testing for it a few weeks ago. I had been shooting it with the 90gr H1000 / 300gr Berger or SMK. No hunting yet. For a native Texan it just feels rude to shoot something with it. Except for hogs... I'd shoot one if the opportunity came up.

Only 100 yards but Group #1 will do. The diamond (square turned 45 degrees is 1/2" flat to flat)...

That's a really nice load SD is great. The fps with that 300Gr are nothing to bock at either. Let them hogs have it ! lol

Throw back photos from about 16 years ago, maybe more. The bottom three shots were with 90gn h1000 300smk and the top 7 were shot by 3 people 92gn h1000 300smk 2811fps. I don't know why the one guy pulled the one shot to mess the group up. I WILL have another 338 edge. This one was built by Kirby on a rem700 receiver broughton barrel.

The proof is on the paper there ! And very impressive with different hands and eyes sending them down range. Nice load and forgiving rifle setup too.

I really like the edge, but sold it for more horsepower of the 338am. With the availability of brass today and the +p chambering, I'm sure it is even nicer. Back then I thought I had won the lottery when I could find Remington 300rum brass, now with adg making edge brass it will be even better.

Barrel will be a 36" 1.25 straight taper (Kreiger) chambered (+P throated for 300gr Berger) by Mr Carlock with his slab brake
Valdada RAM 200 Rocker adjustable base topped with my 5x25 ATACR

H1000 is the intended powder, with the hopes of 3050-3100fps without leaning on it? Have US869, N570, RL-33 if I want to push it, but don't really want too.
Read thru the +P Chamber thread about barrel life and see if it is worth it for you. Shawn exclusively runs H1000 for the temp stability AND it is the coolest burning of any magnum powder while N570 is the hottest burning and will erode your barrel about ~40% faster than H1000.
That said I run N570 in my 11 pound hunting Edge (maybe 40 rounds a year) and H1000 in my 20lb gun that gets a lot more use.

Best dies ....just get them from Shawn at Defensive Edge .

Best powder for a smooth ride with 300 gr bergers.....H-1000 = 2850 ft.per.sec in a 30 " barrel , crazy accuracy!

Better Performance with the 300 gr bergers ......Re-33 , kicking butt @ 3029 ft.per.sec so far not done testing yet .

There is NO ..+P on any of my 338 Edge rifles ....Yet .

All my testing/shooting was done with Sized up Remington 300 Rum once fired brass .

Rum Man
