Gents, There is no question about the ultra quality of S&B, USO, IOR and NF; however, some of us are budget constrained but wish to optimize quality per unit of investment. Therefore, I have just been shipped a PPO 5-20X50 FS pancreatic scope with illuminated range finding reticle for only $348 from Kalinka Optics as this scope IS CURRENTLY USED WITH 51 CAL seriously anti-social rifles and is comprable to the Conquest or Vari series with out the fragility of reticle. This was ordered after "seeing" that the mil-dot trial version withstood heavy recoil but I am not a mil-dot affectionado. If I were I would have ordered the PPO 6-24X 60F for another great price. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif Overbore

Do you have a website?
"pancreatic?" Not sure what that means.

Well I dont think kalinka do either - But it's First Focal plane. And if it's this beast

I doubt you'll keep it long. The reticle is not permanently centred in the image. The reticle ilumination is near (leastways was in the version I tested) useless.

The 6-24 is better - BUT still not worth that sort of DOSH. This is OLD technology and the factory involved (who makes my mirror thing) has moved on.

For USD350 in the US - And the USD430ish for the 6-24 - I'd be looking at an Elite4200 or something - I know it sort of goes against the grain but the Chinese do ocasionally knock out a reasonable offering too. We've started bringing in (for mates on tight budgets etc) real cheap chinese sidewheels for about 70 bucks a hit. And teh optics (price/performance) are frankly stunning.

No it wont get me of my S&B's etc.

Ernie, "Pancreatic" as it applies to this scope, means "smooth transition in adjustments". Chris, the instrustions warn about adjusting the ( ocular) eyepeice beyond the outer limit as it will move the crosshair out of center. Since these scopes are not mass produced but rather are produced on a order basis, the lighing feature on yours may have been a warranty issue as mine is as advertised or better. My only comment is that I must learn metrics for target sizes. Chris, aren't you the very same "Chris" that said the e-bay Jap scopes were junk? Cordially, Overbore

I'm glad you're pleased with yours. Mine came directly from the factory - and when I explained my concerns to them - they agreed their system had shortfalls - MAYBE THIS WAS CORRECTED. I deal with them weekly.

I dont think I've ever said JAPANESE SCOPES ARE JUNK. What I have said is that I doubt I'd fit a leupold copy to my guns - But I have stringent criteria. I spent yesterday at a national competition and scopes from the same source as the leupie copies were well up to the task in hand.

Chris, I had a brain fart and said Japaneese when I should have typed "Chineese e-bay copies". My error and apologies. I have one as a base line test and so far it is ok. Old mil dots are Nam era tech but are better than un-calibrated "hold here and hope" horizontal lines. I flunked subtlelty; what is the brand of the Leupie clones? Overbore

Chris, the scope I am installing the
5x-20X -50mm has the adaptability of two US Duracel #357 batteries for the illuminated reticle ( Wal Mart) and the dioper adjustment with eyepeice is great for my 2.250 correction vision: no glasses. The parallax is about gone and the images are sharp. It is is about right for my needs and budget. Overbore /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif

At least it's not another Spleen-o-matic. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Jack, "Splain youself", Son. This scope is used by the potential Bad Boys on 51 cal military stuff all over the place. It is not the latest technology but then again neither is my 200# anvil-- but it works--. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif Overbore ps as a mind teaser, the scope is going over a vented 8" aluminum bedding block that is being fitted to a new kevlar/metal stock. New enough technology? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif Overbore

Sounds new...which begs the question...why are you putting a bronze-age scope on that super-new type technological wonder of a stock/barrel arrangement?

Just curious.

Why do we issue circa 1700 bayonets to our tgroops? 'Cauze it works every time. did you read the recent news aout the F-22 canopy? Computer controlled-- the pilot had to be cut out of the cocpit when the compter had a "bad electron" day: 2.1 millon dollar "problem". I make up
\grades slowly and prudently sticking with what is known to work the make incrimental canges. If all is well, a NF moa scope is planned. Overbore /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif
