Does anyone know of any good areas to deer hunt in GMU 29 during the rut in January? I got stationed in NM with the USAF, and am itching to take down my first muley! I moved here in August so I was unable to apply for tags this spring, but was able to pick up a leftover tag.
I got out the first day of the season, but decided to wait for the rut. I hunted on the western side of the GMU and found a couple of okay spots that seemed to hold quite a few doe, but didn't see any bucks. I've done some research on the unit. It looks like it will be pretty hard to hunt and it doesn't seem to produce a lot of large bucks. I'm used to hunting whitetails in Wisconsin, so any help is appreciated.
