New Build, just another 300WM

Thank you, great question.

I have enough FGMM 190 SMKs to burn up a barrel. I have a 50 caliber can full of 1X fired FGMM brass. Besides the 2 boxes of Peterson long 300WM.

My FGMM stash alone is enough for me to stick to 300WM. I have a Bartlein CW barreled 30 Nosler that launches 215/N570 to the next velocity node; another reason to not deal with the interim 300 PRC. I don't feel like the 300WM handicapped me in precision department.

My 2 other 300WM shoots lights out with 215/H1000 handloads and the FGMM.

Reamer wise, it is a modified A191 to accommodate both the FGMM and 215s using a Wyatts extended box.

Thanks! I'm still trying to convince myself I don't need another win mag but it would be nice to not have the extra step sizing against the belt when it needs it. Basically want to shoot the 200-212 eldx at 2900 out if a 24". Which may not be possible and I'm just not sure if I can seat those bullets out far enough in the winmag case and still fit in a cip cut bottom medal.

My hot load now is 70.6 imr 4350 with 200g partitions. It shoots lights out but it's an older weatherby pencil barrel.

The availability of off the shelf the win mag still makes it more desirable. Thanks for your input.

After initial firing, resizing should be primarily on the shoulder, not at all entirely against the belt. In all fairness, for my handloads I only use neck sizer on 1X fired brass. Have yet to use brass past second firing.

Just to be clear, you're not sure if a .300 win mag can do 2900 with a 200 out of a 24 inch??? Or are you talking about something else I missed? That's the performance I basically just take for granted from the 300 Winnie, anything less is disappointing or at least deliberately watered down as i see it.

If you're stAying at that 4350 burn rate then the concern makes some sense…drop down a few notches in burn rate and fill er' up!

I've have some once fired brass that was either in a sloppy camber or pushed hard enough that needs a collet die or scrap bin. Just chambering the spent brass was snug closing the bolt. The shoulder was not where near max length. Those where set aside

Sorry for the derailment.

I would really like to run the 212eldx over h1000 and see 2900 out of a 24". I know I should go 26" but it's getting long with a suppressor. Barreled action would be a defiance and bartlein carbon sendero

Pressure test 19 July 2022
Range: 100 yards
Temp: 104 F
Breeze from 430
N570 75.5 through 79.5 at 0.5 step
215M
215 Hybrids
Perterson Long, virgin
COL 3.66

No pressure sign, easy lift., I'll stop and do load work with 79.25 grains, see what happens. The other fired brass were used on another 300WM. The whole row of loaded rounds are just for fireforming. Had I anticipated that it groups well enough to hunt with using virgin brass (though limited data) I would not have loaded them with different primers, etc.

Earlier today, 20 July, at Temple Gun Club. 200 yard face with 3 inch X ring at 500 yards.

Cold bore. Correction from 200 yard zero called for 6.3 MOA. Dialed 6.5 MOA. Wind was almost perfect 6 o'clock. Left windage from yesterday.

Looks promising. Love the retained velocity at 500 yards ~ 2400

Just to see how the waterline is. Fired 5 rounds, let the wind/mirage float, stayed at wind zero correction. Elevation looks promising at 500 yards. Had the fold target to show holes. Bolt to hold paper from flying off the table.

I may just hit an Elk at that distance. ~ 1 inch vertical. What is the kill zone on a bull? 10 ring on the SR target is 7 inches for reference.

Enough Federal GMM 190s to burn a barrel.

I can chamber the barrel and cut/thread the muzzle for the brake, but I don't do furniture.

I never had a true custom built rifle other than 4 double lugged 14 types that I had made built from components including unchambered barrels.

Having said all that, I commissioned benchrest gunsmith to do the whole package with me witnessing the whole process. He agreed and set up the time frame.

One of my mentors in chambering barrels, Mike Bryant, will do the project. This is a continuing education for me. Truly excited.
