New 7mm cartridge from Federal

Just thinking out loud here but Seekins new bolt design where you can just switch out the bolt head instead of having to buy another bolt or another action is pretty ingenious. They have their own prefit barrels they are making now and have their own ability to carbon wrap barrels. They just set themselves up pretty well for all the DIY rifle putter togetherers haha. Why wouldn't you buy their actions and prefit barrels and if you wanted to then switch from a .470 to a .540 then you could do it in 15 seconds if you bought their other bolt face and then screw your barrel on and be done.

On a side note there is a store near me with multiple NIB Kimber Montanas in 7mm, 300, and 325WSM.

325 doesn't get much love around here but the 7 wsm and 300 wsm kimbers move quick in these parts unless absurdly priced.

Keep seeing the 80 rifle options, seems like it was botique options and savage. Any other mainstream makers on the list? I'd like to try one but don't have a standard bolt face long action for donor, hard to find a basic stainless sporter these days.

Oh….just like a Walmart Savage but with precision and ultra quality materials….

I'm going off of a weak memory of it but what I believe it was called 277 Fury ? It had a ceramic case ? I don't remember the details . Was it designed for military use ? Were the cases reloadable ? I wouldn't think so but what do I know ?
I can see a thin alloy metal being reloadable but probably not very many times at that pressure . Also would think it would wear dies.
As Trm82 said, with that kind of pressure are they crimping primers in ?
I'd like to see the velocity out of a 24-26 in. barrel but maybe thier powder "blend" which I agree with Huntaddict on could be designed to burn in short barrels and not give much increase in burn rate with longer barrels.
It's intriguing but I'd like to see how it's doing in a year or more from know. Did anybody notice what make the rifle was in the videos ?
277 Fury has a steel webbing/primer pocket area the rest of the case is brass. For some reason, the hybrid case has not made it onto the civilian market yet that I have seen. (not really looking either) The hybrid case should be reloadable. Not too sure how this new case will be. I am skeptical especially since the 7 PRC has such a head start and this is different than anything we have seen before. This may be another SAUM deal where the 300 WSM had such a head start. The current state of the economy and people already jumped in with both feet on the 7 PRC. Time will tell but I will stick with what has been around for a while. I don't understand the big jump to hunting with a short barrel and then adding a suppressor (which takes it back to a longer length). Lot of time and money for a couple of shots a year on an animal. JMO. And yes I own suppressors just dont see the need to hunt with one out here in the West. Of course, I know people in the south that use them for moonlight hunting so the game warden cant hear them

I'm late to this party at page 7, did a lot of reading on all 3 threads discussing this cartridge concept…

I'm skeptical that the promises will match the actual performance.
Aside from selling things, what was the initial goal or problem an R&D dept set out to solve?

As shooters, we already have some cartridges and platforms with proven phenomenal performance right near the limits that physics imposes on delivering kinetic energy to a target in a shoulder fired weapon.

Apparently Federal Cartridge is claiming that there is more performance to be had….maybe…but the possibility of gains and the trade-offs leave me skeptical.

30 TC
338 Marlin
376 Styer
325 WSM
And Im sure I'm missing some.
Your forgetting Federals first try, the mighty 338 Federal. You remember, 308 performance with twice the recoil. You Can still find ammo for that one cause the first box that ever hit any store shelves is still there. Federal does have some of the very best factory ammo options, but maybe cartridge development should be left to ANYONE else.

Thank you ! Is it a 308 case ?

This isn't something exclusive to seekins. Zermatt actions have removable bolt heads as one example. With a shouldered prefit you can do a switch barrel easily and change calibers in minutes.
