New 7mm cartridge from Federal

The RUM uses a magnum action in Rem 700. its longer than a "long" action and has a bigger bolt face. The PRC is a shorter case and has less case capacity so I can't it having more velocity/M.E..
I could care less who wins the recoil contest. You stated the PRC "barely" beats it out. Never happen. The PRC is shorter in length than the RUM so your your theory on action mags and stocks Is bogus also. I have no anxiety over my 300 RUM. Been shooting and reloading for them since 1999. Long before the wonderful 300 PRC. I get 3482 fps. With a 180 Hammer and 3275 with a 215 Berger. Both not max. I could push them both but with the groups I get I don't need to. I ran Barnes TSX and TTSX 180 gr. for a long time in my factory barrel at 3360 fps. 3/8 in. Groups. 150 TSX at 3630 fps.
Maybe you should do some more research on your PRC compared to RUM.
🙄
Being from Kommiefornia does "Iiber" mean liberal ? If not I'd change it. Just saying ... 😉
No offense Adam32+P
I own all 3 and have run the 30 Nosler itself since 8 months before it was released at SHOT show. I don't mind recoil (hunting BIson this weekend with a 470NE and a 500 gr bullet. 111 grains of RL22 = RECOIL! LOL) but if I can get a little bit less and have nearly the same velocity, why not.

IME - using the same bullet and using a SAAMI length and chamber I have come up with this for Velocity - all use 210 ablr and the fastest/accurate powder
  • 300 PRC = 3068 - 81.1 RTMBO
  • RUM = 3061 - 92 gr RTMBO
  • Nos = 3039 - 82.2 RTMBO
How did I take this information and why did it matter. I didn't need 3 30s so I
  • Sold one 30 N
  • Turned my 300 RUM into a 30 Nosler - Don't know why I did it that way, I guess I liked this one better
  • Turned my PRC into a 7/300 PRC
Using standard loads, I can get nearly the same FPS using 10 less grains of powder. That said, if I start adding freebore and loading projectiles to XL mag capacities, the RUM catches up - but why...I have all the speed I am ever going to need with less powder.

This is pertinent to this thread because I think Hornady missed the boat with the 7 PRC and the shortened case. I think they should have taken the 300 PRC and necked it to 7mm - its reloadable, gets >3000 fps (fastest was 3120 with a 175 at the ragged edges of max) 3021 with 180 grain bergers and is plenty of wallop.

Furthermore, I didn't even have to use a nuclear charged case and Magic to get there LOL with some fantom powder combo that some witch doctor cooked up in the basement - components everywhere, and all I had to do was use the current 300 PRC redding die and change bushings - easy button!

Looks like Weatherby just announced it is chambering it in their 307 and Mark 5s

Not a marketing genius but it seems like Federal could have used their proprietary blend for the case material and offered it for 10 to 12 of the best selling cartridges and have garnered far more in sales from those looking for fps as opposed to making a new cartridge altogether. It would be my guess other major brass manufacturers are doing R&D now since the announcement.

Magnum performance in a short barrel in a standard long action case. With suppressors becoming more prevalent you can see the appeal. Also remember that the average joe that buys factory ammo is the market and it's bigger than the reloader guy market. I don't understand the negative comments. This is what Americans do. We push the envelope, we innovate. Plus it's a 7mm. I will probably have to get one lol.

I ran up to 100.0 grs. Retumbo with a 180 gr. for years at 3360 fps. 26 in. Barrel. I'm running 92.0 grs. N570 with 215 Berger just at 3200 fps with a 28 in. barrel.
I'm not looking at a manual but 92.0 grs. of Retumbo with a 210 seems mild to me in a RUM.
I'll stick with my RUM. 😉
I agree that Hornady should of just necked down the 300 PRC to 7mm. Then it could compete with 7mm RUM 😁

Yes, I, too, won't comment too much because if it takes off, I'll likely get one at some point. I'll probably give it a few years, though. I remember not too long ago reading about how polymer cases were going to take over. . .

Living in a high humidity area, my main concerns with this paradigm shift is in regards to case longevity. I'm sure they are coated, but how tough can that be after a few loadings? Anyone who's left powder residue next to bare steal knows how fast pitting can occur. Time will tell.

Holy moly! that's some nuclear copper rocket velocity!!! Wonder. barrel life with that??

Love my 7/300. Almost to the point that i leave the 30 home….almost lol.

I don't shoot it much. Just hunt with it. After I had the Bartlien 5R barrel cut to 28 in. On I found a Google load right off with the 215 Berger so I stopped. Probably 120 rds down barrel.
I have a load for 300 WM with 180 Hammer . 80 grs. RL26 . ADG case Fed 215M with 24 in. barrel going 3240 fps. that I've got 3 into one hole once a two into 1 hole 3 times with 3rd shot barely out of group. I'm not a paper puncher other than to test loads.

Anyone remember this failure?????

The Remington 700 EtronX is a bolt-action rifle that uses an electronic primer ignition system to fire Remington EtronX ammunition:

  • Appearance
The EtronX looks and feels like a standard Model 700, but it has a few key differences:
    • LED: An LED on the grip indicates the rifle's status, including if it's safe or ready to fire

      • Battery: A low battery indicator is included
      • Fluted barrel: The barrel is fluted and doesn't come with sights, but the receiver is drilled and tapped for scope mounts
      • Stock: The pistol grip stock is made of fiberglass, graphite, and Kevlar
    • Technology
The EtronX's on-board electronics system could be used to implement a user-authorization system. For example, a person could wear an identifying ring that the gun's sensor would read to approve the weapon for use.
    • History
The EtronX was introduced in 2000 but was a commercial failure and production ceased in 2003.
    • Price
The EtronX had a suggested list price of $1999, which was about $1000 more than the standard 700.

The lesson there and in Remington's keyed actions is don't push the gun safety envelope for the anti gun crowd. They're never going to feel you've done enough or accept you as a legitimate company. Instead, they will always try to kill you outright or bit by bit as they can, so don't ever concede a milimeter unless mandated; and then fight the mandate as far as possible before actually moving forward with any engineering.
