ive.got a 220 swift that I want to develop a rocket load for. I don't have any bullets right now, but the last time I worked on a load, the rifle didn't seem to love 50 gr V-max, although my ESs were pretty high (75-80 fps) so the issue may not have been the bullets.

Here are the components that I do have-

Primers- BR2, CCI 200 and 250,
Powder- varget, H4350, staball 6.5, H1000, RL26

Please provide feedback on what you think might have been causing my extreme spreads to be so high. I was loading H4350 if I remember, so I don't think it was the powder.

Thanks

My cousin has had quite a few swifts' and still has a couple. Having put thousands of rounds thru them, his pet load has always been roughly 38-39gr of 4064 behind a 52-55gr bullet. YMMV
I concur with your cousin. I have a 1974 Ruger 77V I call "my highschool sweetheart" 38gr of 4064 and a 52g Sierra HP flat base is a super-accurate deadly combination. With a few exceptions, it has always shot better and tuned easier with flat base bullets.

A Ruger 77 and a rare German Weatherby varmintmaster are the two he has left

My rifle didn`t like 4064, and my RCBS UNIFLOW hated it. 😂 H380 throws nice, and gives better accuracy in my 26" No.1 but as we all know, no 2 rifles are the same.

My buddy loads Varget or 748, I used Benchmark about 30 years ago, it shot well but was not the fastest.
To be honest, with all the new powders available, the old reliables may not be where it shoots best, sorry I can't be of more help, but I moved on to 22-250's and 22-250AI's due to case head separations with the 220 Swift.

Cheers.

My 24" sporter barreled Ruger M77 Swift likes 37 grains of IMR 4064 behind a 55 gr Sierra GK in Norma brass. It also groups real well with the same load behind the Norma 55 grain Oryx bullet which I have used on deer.

Of your powders you listed I'd hold back RL/26,H1000,for your primers hold back your 250's ,Varget will work with 40's,50's,55's. Hornady makes a v/max in 60 grains and Nosler makes the 60 partition also ,one/4350 works good across the board ,I'd have to look into H4350 ,don't know if I ever loaded my Swift with it ,H380 is very good ,H414, W760 they say their the same powder ,I don't know but there Very good as is imr4831 ,imr 4064 is very good but hard on barrels ,aa3100 is worth a look ,you talked of 6.5 Stabal, that needs research,aa2700 is supposed to be fantastic , my swifts a semi custom 26 inch 1/14 twist ss mark chanlynn bbl mated to a ruger flat top action ,synthetic stock and a canjar set trigger . OP tell us about your Swift & how long you been reloading ,Cheers 🥳😆

My 220 Swift is a Remington 700 VSSF. This model is stainless and has a heavy Fluted barrel and an HS precision stock. I replaced the trigger with a jewel trigger some years ago. In the 200-300 rounds I've shot, it has always been a good shooter. I've been reloading for 30 years, but only got really serious about it 6 or 7 years ago. Below is evidence of both. Thanks for the feedback.

I have 2 swifts, both Savage that I have used on PD's for years. Both guns like 4064 powder with a 50 grain V Max bullet.
