Need help narrowing choices down

kbb468,
This could get lengthly but here goes. On this web site there are different catagories and you are in The Basics,Starting Out catagory. Go down two more catagories to Buy,Sell,Trade,Ect. catagory. Then click on Guns For Sale sub title. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif Sorry that I didn't make that more clear in earlier post. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/blush.gif Savage makes two SS 26" heavy fluted varmint rifles in 300WSM. 12BVSS with laminate stock SRP $746.00. 12VSS with synthetic stock SRP $691.00. They also make one for both the 7MMRem mag and the 300Win mag. It is the 116FHSAK. It has a 24" heavy but not varmint dia. barrel with muzzle break, hindged floor plate and synthetic stock. SRP $651.00. Lastly they make a 300Win mag called the 112 Varminter Low Profile. It also has a 26" heavy fluted varminter barrel with a laminated stock. SRP $806.00.

Thanks cjp45 i think I have my mind made up. I am considering now only two specific guns. The 12fvss in 300 wsm shooting 180's and a 112fvss in 7mm mag shooting 165's as fiftydriver mention. I looked up the ballistic info on both with those weight of bullets and they both were on par with each other. If i do go with the 300 I could rebarrel to a 308 win later I think. what ever i get has to have another stock so my whole collection doesn't look the same, boring.

kbb468,
I have a SS Savage model 16 270WSM and really like it. I reload so price and availability of ammo not a problem. Really like the short action also. Not much chance of short strokeing the bolt like with long actions. Rifles are also a little lighter with short action. If I had to choose between the 300WSM and the 7mm mag I would go with the 300WSM. I say this because of being a short action round and greater choice of bullets in 30cal.
