Need a new rifle -- Recommendations!

Per Lefty G-gear, this looked PERFECT. All for $559. 26" barrel. Cerakote. 1 MOA guarantee. Proven Howa 1500 action (basically). 7mm Rem Mag (great caliber choice, by the way. Don't listen to those .30 Mag and .338 Mag guys. They think elk wear armor plate or something...)

HOWA VS MOSSBERG BOLT FACE (Extractors)
(Nevermind the arrows) :D

WEATHERBY VANGUARD BOLT
(These extractors pictured seem better than Remington 700s. - I had a SAKO-style extractor installed on my 700. - The 700 boltface looks much like the Vanguard now. :D BUT, maybe the stock 700s are safer if something blows! - "The 3-rings of steel." :D BUT then the trigger safety issue? = Put a Timney trigger in it.)

IF I were to pick a Weatherby - it would be this stainless one for a little more:

BUT I'm a lefty :D and I haven't seen any lefty Weatherbys.
So I'd pick a TIKKA T3X lefty stainless!

Do what I do. Walmart has 700 ADL Remington's for $375. That's cheaper than you can buy the action for. Get one. See how it shoots. Try different loads. Check the bedding. Do all the normal tinkering. If I couldn't get the results I wanted, then I'd remove the barrel, face the reciever where it mates the barrel to insure it is square, lap the bolt lugs to the reciever, surface grind the recoil lug the insure it is even and to achieve minimal excessive headspace. If all that won't get good results, install a new barrel. Or buy a more expensive rifle. Although I've heard that Bergaras had some problems with bolt shrouds breaking. Who knows, that cheap ADL just might shoot. I've never had a M700 lemon and I own several. Supposedly, the only difference in the Walmart rifles is that polished as nicely. Good luck. It's your money. Throw the dice and see what happens.

Hello all,

I'm in the market for a new hunting rifle, chambered in 7mm rem mag. I hunt black bear, deer and elk and I would like accuracy capabilities on game out to 500-600 yards and steel out to around 1,000. I plan to use handloads as well.

I had my eyes on the Bergara B14 Hunter, but just recently heard some less than satisfactory things about them and I am now directing my eyes elsewhere. For my budget, I'd like to stay under $700, but if it's really worth it I can move up to $800.

Please let me know your recommendations.

Much appreciated!
Remington model 700 long range in 7mm Remington mag, mine shoot 1/2 inch with the stock trigger, very accurate gun

I have a new Bergara B14 HMR in 300 Win and I am astonished at its accuracy. With 180 Swift Aframe and IMR 4350. It's going to be one of my favorite hunting rifles.

I have an old Savage 110 Sierra light in 7mm Rem Mag. 7.25lb w/ mounts, rings and scope. Great rifle w/ suprisingly light recoil. You should look at used guns. I know of a Savage 7mmRM That is new W/ iron sights, 15 years old new, that has a tag of $275.00. It needs a front blade as it never had one. $15.00 at midway. I load mine from 120 to 175gr bullets and you can find ammo anywhere. I would stay away from the short mag and go w/ a .300WM if you want to go .30. I like the 7mmRM. If I had to do it again I might choose a different caliber based on published data, but It has never failed me and I trust it.

New savage or tc venture, 1 piece ring and base dnz combo, vortex diamondback hp 4-16 bdc or Nikon Prostaff 5 4-14 bdc will put you in the ball park with accuracy and reliability for a lifetime of hunting. Good luck tons of ideas and options
