My Favorite Prairie dog rifle

I'd love to hear your favorite cals and reasoning for em

I favor the 223 sized cartridges with 40 grain VMax bullets. The 223, 222 Mag and 204 Ruger will do 95% of my shooting. The 204 Ruger is best with 32 grain bullets.

The attraction of fast twist doesn't really do anything that velocity will do better at most prairie dog ranges. Distances get a bit extended in print over what they really are on the field and that is why I prefer high velocity over fast twist.

At the volume I shoot, I disregard a lot of what many people pursue with their rifles. I have found that missing is still part of the day in a pd field and although I don't want to, I do miss some shots. I have not worried about getting tiny groups with each gun because I can still hit what I'm shooting at at most pd ranges with 1 moa guns.

I have as many as 5 guns in a single chambering and load only one load for all 5 guns and put the crosshair in the center of the group and go shooting. It works better than what people think when they read all the stories of how fast twist and tiny groups are necessary to shoot prairie dogs.

I buy VMax bullets by the thousands and powder by the kegs, as I do shoot a lot…

Reason I asked is I keep wanting a 20 practical but don't NEED one. Mostly I end up using 223 just because I have a few and they are cheap to feed. I have a lot of the old favorites as well 22-250,220 swift,222 but nothing in the 20 cal department.

A man after my own heart. I keep numerous thousands of varmint bullets in stock, and currently, its around 12-14 thousand on the shelf mostly in those 500-1,000 pc boxes with several 100's thrown in. Powders are comparable.

Truer words were never spoken. I've been shooting a 20 VT for many years and it has taken many, many PD's. But, I still had the itch for a 20 P. I finally made a 20 P rifle and really like it. Very accurate, easy to load for, etc, etc..

I just completed a Savage 20P 110 PCS handgun that I expect to be very accurate as well.

Have one made up, if it doesn't fit your needs, not accurate, etc, you could rechamber it or sell it.
