Ha ha.. I live in Wy. Shooting with wind is a way of life here.

I shoot in North Dakota, and pretty breezy up here too. That's why I use the portable/swivel bench. Shoot into the wind or with it. Just keep moving perpendicular to the wind direction, and you can shoot that 17 HMR all day. If you're accurate out to 150 yards, you can cover 300 yards at a time.

I have an old Savage single shot, solid bottom target action rifle, long action in .223 set up as a switch barrel multi caliber test mule from way back when. Multiple bolt heads and bolts.

Then I built an Origin short action in .223 and set up the headspace to match the old Savage so I have a pair.
Seriously looking at building a .20P.

I generally always grab a .17. Love my CZ .17 hornet, and my Cooper .17 AH, and my Rem. 700 limited .17 Fireball, and if I really need to reach out I grab the heavy barreled Savage .204. Run a suppressor on all of them. Killed about 1000 this summer.

I've been thinking about a 17 fireball...how do you like it for noise? Have you used it on larger critters?

It has been many years since I shot prairie dogs but I liked using .223, 22-250 and .243

I run a suppressor on every rifle, so noise is not a concern.
I have not used the fireball in anything other than prairie dogs. I have a .17/204 on use on coyotes.
