My 6.5 x 284 Build

You may indeed have to cut them down or slow your rounds way down, that's a long *** barrel to be so skinny, hell a lot of the guys I shoot with in matches have 28-30" barrels with muzzle diameters ranging from 1.125-1.450", mine done fine at .998" but at .800" that's a 26-28" varmint barrel.

I have run 139 scenars up to 3182fps in a 30" barrel with a tid bit of extra resistance in bolt lift, but accuracy wise they (and the bergers) do not like to be pushed that fast through an 8 twist, you can break 3000 easy, there are some hitting around 2980-2990 with 24" barrels. If you use a 30" barrel it should have a muzzle diameter of atleast .875" or your playing with a harmonic nightmare.

Tell me more about the harmonic nightmares please!

Long thin barrels have a lot of harmonic vibration and can cause accuracy issues, flyers, loose groups, etc.. best off with heavy strait taper like nbrsa heavy varmint at .925" or 1" bull.

I don't know if you've made the final decision on the stock or not yet, but I just got my 264 build back from the smith a few weeks ago. It's bedded in a greybull stock and I have absolutely no complaints. Previously, I had a b&c medalist varmint / tactical stock, and my opinion was weight and width in the fore end were a little too much for a hunting gun. My 264 with the greybull stock, 27" lilja fluted sendero contour, and vxiii LRT 6.5-20x50 weighs in at 10.2 pounds on the bathroom scale. For me, that stock really is the happy medium between lightweight and vertical grip (without the $$$ for the mcmillan). Just my two cents.
gun)

My 6.5 .284 has a 28" brux with a .70 dia muzzle and shoots .35 five shot groups.
140 A-max @3125 fps. 50.5 grains RL 17. Its a little hot when the temps are up.
I do wish I had went with a 26"-25" at 28" its a little bit long for a all around hunting rifle.

Mine is going to be a dedicated long range varmint and landing gun. Barrel length was selected for max velocity.

I have a 6.5 x 284 with a #4 Brux, 8". Basically the 140 Berger and 140 A-Max shoot the same. I get 2975 without pressure from 49.5 H4350 and 51.5 H4831sc. 1/2MOA with all combos I try>

Here is a barrel question (Broughton Barrel)

These are the two contours I am looking at:

5.75 HVY VARMINT SPORTER 1.250 .940 .830 2.5 7.0 26 28 5.6

Or

12.4 PALMA HEAVY 1.250 1.00 .900 3.0 7.0 30 31 6.5

I have come to the conclusion 30 might be a touch long, so 28" it is.

Is there any benefit to the Palma contours?

Thanks

you can always cut it off, but you cant add it. 28 is the best I have found.

you can get 3100 but you will lose it when you get some round trough it. vv-560 with 140's

palma is a good one. I like it fluted for hunting. have both.

Yesterday I went to the Sportsman Show in Harrisburg, PA, Where I was able to get my hands on both the Vortex Viper PST 6-24x50 and the Huskemaw 5-20x50 Blue Diamond, I am now leaning toward the Huskemaw! The guys from "Best of the West" were very helpful!
