My 260 by MCR

Love it! cant wait to see that beast up close. Kevin does great work, ive seen several of his rifles and they are both precision instruments and pieces of art at the same time.

Ok guys....used some factory ammo last weekend to do the intial barrel break-in. In terms of copper fouling, the process went great. After shoot once, clean, shoot, clean, shoot, shoot, clean etc. through 20 rounds, the copper comes out of this barrel in one or two patches. In terms of accuracy.... not impressive.

Got out to the range this weekend with some hand-loads....

Bullet: 142grain SMK
Powder: 44.5grains H4831SC
Primer: Fed210M
Chronographed Velocity: 2730fps

Load produced a .236" five shot group at 100 yards.

Also tested 45, 45.5 and 46 grains. The largest of group these loads was .75moa

Hopefully will get some 140VLDs and RL17 to test soon. Want to get 2800fps with a 140grain bullet.

Load development continues....

The initial load that produced .25moa accuracy, (142SMK, H4831SC, Fed210M) was 'only' going 2730fps and had a terrible ES (30+). I was looking to achieve 2800 with the SMK and to reduce the ES significantly. So today I got out and tried several charge weights and primers. One of them really stood out....

Bullet: 142SMK
Powder: 43.5 grains H4350
Primer: CCI BR2
Velocity: 2930fps with an ES of 2!

Just slightly larger than .25moa at 200 yards!

Yes, that's a three shot group, not two.

For now, this will be my go-to load for targets and varmints. I'm going to continue to work to find a load that will run closer to 2800 in the interest of preserving barrel life.

Also, working on development of a hunting load with the 140VLD.

Here's two groups at about .5moa at 200 yards.

Bullet: 140VLD
Powder: RL17 42.5 and 44grains
Primer: Fed210
Velocities: 2930 (ES = 22) and 3015 (ES = 15)

Development for this load will continue as I would like to improve accuracy a bit more.

I was shooting 44.5g of H4350, 140g amax, rem cases, cci BR2 2950fps I could never get the group under an inch at 200. I switched to the Fioccie LR primer and my group shrank to 1/4" at 200. I use the BR2 for most everything I shoot but I just could not make her work in the 260. Just a thought

Thanks for the tip. I'll file that little nugget away.

Generally, I find accuracy of the VLDs can be tuned with seating depth.
