From a purely weight perspective go Swaro Z3. I used my older 3-9X36 at the very edge of shooting light at 400 yards and it worked. If that's not enough the Zeiss Conquest HD5 3-15X42 with RZ600 reticle is very good. The Zeiss would have to be purchased off Ebay or some such as it is discontinued. Lastly the Leupy VX3i's. This is the weight first consideration list and with the StrelokPro ballistic app you can see exactly what hold to use with updated atmospheric conditions.

My go-to setup for mountain hunting is my Sako85 Finnlight in 6.5 CM. SS 20" fluted barrel. Since I've owned it I've had a SigSauer BDX scope 4.5-14X44 mounted. Its paired to the 2400 BDX rangefinder. IMO electroptics are the way of the future however it's my understanding that some states don't allow hunting with this technology. The Tango scopes are well built and are lightweight too. Good luck.

Check out the Leupold VX3i 4.5-14. It is around 12 inches long and 14 ounces with CDS. Nice light compact scopes for carry rifles.

I second this. I had every intention of buying a VX5HD for my most recent rifle build, but when I felt the weight difference, it was an easy choice to buy the vx-3i. I dont feel like I gave up much as far as quality of glass either. I really like the wind plex reticle and I'll be ordering my free CDS turrets soon. The CDS turret gives a zero stop. If I remember correctly, you can only turn one rotation with CDS, so youd have to calculate is one rotation gives you enough elevation.

I have the VX3i 4.5x14 x 50, 30mm (17oz) on my Kimber Mt. Accent 6.5 Creed. And love it. Whole set up ready to hunt with scope ,sling, tactical cheek piece with extra amo (11 rounds total on gun) just barely tips scale at 7lb.
At 2800 fps with 143 grain bullet. I can dial to 1300 yrds (would be more if had 20moa rail) but has no zero stop. and with the (free) CDS dial which indeed only allows one revolution before hitting the built in zero stop I can dial 700yrds before hitting the zero stop.

In your power range with a lighter weight, the VX6 HD and VX5 HD are the only way to go. I personally see a big difference in clarity and low light performance between the VX3i and the VX5HD. Isn't close to my eyes.

How do the VX3i's track over time? Prior to looking at the Zeiss V4 I wanted a swaro Z5 but saw quite a few accounts of the erectors going out and basically swaro telling these individuals that it wasn't a target scope and wasn't designed for full time dialing basically.

Just an opinion. There is a lot to be said for glass quality, repeatable tracking, reduced weight, dimensions and less to go wrong the fixed 10X Schmidt and Bender PM2 30mm tube pictured on the right beside the 5-25 PM2 and the 4-16 ATACR is noticeably leaner lighter and less moving parts.

Gents,
After all the suggestions I went with the Leupold VX5HD 3-15 x 44. It fits the rifle well and it looks good. Off to the range this weekend to see how the new lady performs.
