Very fortunate to have scraped coins together for a Kazakhstan hunt and bringing my Hart 7MM Rem Mag. I want to stick with 168 bergers running at 2900 with H1000 but for a hunt like this don't want to risk anything. Shots run 250 - 500 in most cases. Thinking about nosler accubonds (and LR if ever available) for bullet that stays together. Ibex are tough animals. Welcome any feedback based on experience over there or places like it.

I think you answered your own question.(Ibex are tough animals) The Accubonds would be my first choice because of there consistence and dependability at Impact.

For the distance you have said you will be shooting the higher BCs of the Berger will not come into play.

I hope you have a successful hunt

Welcome to LRH and enjoy!

Your load is tougher than the ibex esp. at that range but shot placement is KEY. Go for it!

LRNimrod,

You will certainly embark on a great adventure. I have taken ibex in Kazakhstan with a 7 SAUM using Nosler AB and they performed flawless. But, I have also taken mid-Asian ibex in Kyrgyzstan using Nolser BTs and they too worked like a charm. Best of luck on your hunt.

The Ibex I took in Kyrg was taken with a TTSX at 400 yards. You can use either. I'd likely use the AB IF you had good enough accuracy to assure proper placement at 500 yards. Good luck and please file a hunt report when you come back. Bruce

Thanks for the feedback guys, I appreciate it very much. I think I will try to track down the 160 or new 168 ABs and get them dialed in for the hunt. I have until late September to sort it out.

I would not hesitate to shoot a Berger at any Ibex from my 7mm mag. At 500 I almost get a pass through on 3/4" mild steel, and Ibex are not THAT tough.

I hope you can get whatever bullet you want to shoot. Bullets are more scarce than Mid Asian Ibex here in Kansas!

You don't spend forty grand on a trip to shoot at steel plates that might fall off of a cliff or run off to die and be eaten by wolves and tigers.

Accubonds perform well consistently on game. I've had very good luck with the accubond LR's in my 7mm STW's even on big hogs.

Berger's are accurate no doubt but they are no where near as consistent on game as the accubonds.

If it were me on tough bodied game like the Ibex I'd stick with the Nosler Accubond or Hornady Interbond or go with a good expanding monometal like the Peregrine VLR4.

I've shot boatloads of the 154gr Interbond and 150gr VLR4's and have never failed to put an game down with them hard and where they stand with a single shot.

Next trip to Africa I will for sure be shooting nothing but Peregrines for that very reason.

Ahh. Well I got a reply notice when you posted since I had posted in the thread when it was fresh/new.

Thanks, always glad to see you and one of these days I'll find a way to take you up on your offer although if I come you may have to put up with Mario as well.
