I had this on my MDT ESS-XL rifle Chassis before I switched to a short with the folding stock adapter.

(Note: it will ship in a box marked SRS short—that's because I bought a short long after I tossed the box this one came in)

Will these things thread into a standard buffer tube threading on an ar rifle?

Not this model. They make a "carbine" option. This is the "fixed", I should mention that in the ad. MDT does make an adapter, but not exactly cheap.
