Here's an article that is a good reference for long range shooting with a 223.

Shooting A 223 Rifle To A Mile Accurately

Although it sounds like you're married to getting a centefire 22, let me provide an alternative....look at the 243. With the 243 you get heavier, better BC bullets. They will buck the wind waaaaay better than the 223 and they will shoot waaaaaaay farther than the 22s

The next jump from the 243 is to look at the 260Rem. Another great short action with great BC bullets.

what he said... i had a BVSS 223 1/9, i now have a LRPV 223 1/9 and both "will" shoot past 500, but for 500+ i use a 243 with 87gr Vmax

ANY gun in .22 has crappy ballistics past 500 compared to 6mm 6.5mm guns

Received your PM and replied but for whatever reason it won't work. Says you cannot be found?

223 vs 243 is a big difference in barrel life, size, recoil... No need for 243 if not going over 700yd for varmint with the right load.

Ballistically the 243 does goes farther, 6.5mm is a whole new level farther. 6.5mm is on par with 7mm. Higher than any others until 338 comes into picture. And on....

The 223 is a great round!
