Maybe because they're ugly ?

I think they’re the best looking of the military bolt actions. The chrysanthemum on the bolt shroud makes me happy in places

If anybody has more to add on these rifles I'm all ears. I've enjoyed the comments so far.

They had a really neat safety where you push in the bolt shroud and rotate it. Probably knew that already though

Timney used to make an adjustable trigger for them, I wish I had bought more of them 40 years ago. The one Arisaka I still have in 25 Souper has been modified with a side safety similar to model 700 rem. It blocks the trigger when engaged, while still having the rotating safety on the back of the bolt.
