I had a 444 back in the late 90s. A screw in the internals of the lever would always back its self out and lock up the lever on me.. after doing it twice to me, i had the smith fix it, lock tight it and i traded it in. Paid a whole $400 for it.
Very nice! Reminds me of my dad's Marlin 336RC in 30-30 which he has given to me as a family heirloom. I'm sure someone might want to know if the top of the receiver is drilled/tapped for scope mounts. Mine is circa 1956 model and is not drilled and I don't plan on altering it.
