I've always been a fan of Leupold Scopes, in particular their now discontinued VX-II 3-9x40. What I appreciate it is the clean, simple appearance, small mag ring that doesn't get in the way of a bolt when mounted lower, and the low profile turret covers.
I'm looking for a new scope for a timber hunting rifle, and I would like to find something similar to the old VX-II, but with better glass. I bought a 3.5-10 VX-3HD last year. The glass is nice, but I really don't like the mag ring. Even after removing the "tactical" throw lever, the raised hump it screws into gets in the way of my hand working the bolt.
Anyone have any recommendations for another brand scope? I want a 1" tube, no big turret covers or externally adjustable turrets, low profile mag ring. Just a simple 3-9x or similar. I've looked at the Swarovski Z3 3-10 a little bit, looks like it might fit the bill. I'm very open to opinions on the Swarovski or any other suggestions. Trying to keep it under $1k.
Thanks for any help you can provide!
