Looking for a shooter close to $1000

I'm a fan of the 700. I bought an A7 thinking that I'd be impressed beyond what the Tikka or 700 can offer, but the accuracy was only pedestrian. All of my 700's will outshoot my Sako. Small sample size for the A7 - I know. But I've met very few remingtons that don't shoot well.

The front stud tore out of my Sako as I was trying to shoulder it. Plus the action is too short to mag feed the eldx load I worked up.

If Sako will replace the stock, I might just get the gun adjusted so a shorter OAL will work. That's definitely the budget friendly approach.

If SAKO won't replace the stock, stud replacement work/repair is fairly easy if you're willing and able to do the extra work. I repaired a friend's Win 70 stock with Harris adapter offerings >>> http://www.harrisbipods.com/adapters.html, I used HB2 flange nut on his.

Good luck!

Must be a sad state of mind to trade a sako for a remington :)
I haven't missed either of the 2 buck I shot with the Sako yet, but I figure if I do have it out one day and miss, I'll just whisper the word "SAKO" and the deer will be so impressed that it will just fall over dead. Sadly, with the remington, I know I'll have to come by my shots honestly :)

A Savage. Compelling reason? It'll outshoot a Remy, and who doesn't like something a little ugly. All kidding aside you could probably screw together a Savage on your own with a decent aftermarket barrel and stock for around 1k.
Savage long range hunter runs under $900, they shoot really great right out if the box, are decent looking, and give you lots of easy rebarrel options down the road.
