Not sure what you consider West Texas but there are many, many, many Aoudad and Mulies around Van Horn, Sierra Blanca, Fort Hancock. All private land as far as I know but all lot of free ranging game.

This is just wrong lmao. There's thousands of wild aoudad on low fence and hundreds of elk. My source is that I live on a ranch in west Texas and see them every day

to answer OP question in his original post. Most outfitters/guides I know in the Alpine TX areas reccomend a 7mag or bigger, take their clients to a 300yd range and make sure they can shoot and the gun is sighted in. We kill 10+ aoudad a year and 4-5 elk total cow and bulls. I've seen shots from 40 yds to 575. Aoudad are tough creatures for no bigger than they are.
