loading for 338/378 weatherby

I have one that I re-barreled with a 30" Bartlein and a B&C tactical varmint stock.

I use H-1000 exclusively and reload 280 gr Barnes LRX, 250 & 300 gr Nosler Accubond, and have in the past loaded 250 gr Sierra Game King and 300 gr Sierra Match King. 300 gr bullets have been about 2950 fps and the 250 gr Noslers are right at 3144. For the Noslers, I'm using about 106.4 gr H-1000. The 300 gr bullets get about 96.4 gr. The 280 gr LRX gets about 104.7 gr.

No pressure issues that I can see. I'm just starting to enjoy it now. Shot my first deer in 10 years this past season using this rifle.

Here it is not very good pics.

I went to order some more 285 A-Max's from midway USA the other day to play more with them out of my 338/378, on midway it said they were discontinued, Are they gone for good or just temporarily? On Hornady they claim to have - .756 g1 bc on midway they say .720 either way that's a decent bc for the 285 Grain pill. I was just curious if anyone knew what the situation was with these. And why they would pull such an accurate bullet. I have little experience with them but what few I have shot they shot good.

just looking last night at the Chey Tac page and brass is 2 bucks per case. Not bad when you look at the 300 RUM Nosler stuff, 338 Laupua, or the 338-378 brass. Just not much for bullets at the 375 diameter but a few of the ones out there are can be aswome. Then again there is always the 338 snipe tac, the 338 Allen maginum, and some others on the 408 chey tac case. I know over all its a large price increase. Also barrel life is on the low end of things.

1.56 group at 200 yards the vit seems to be working. Coal at 3.89

I've been hearing really good stuff about RL 33 so I started testing with it last year. with A standard edge using 92 grns of H1000 Pushing a 300 grn burger I was only able to get 2800 fps out of a Bartlien 28 inch barrel. Using 106.5 grains of RL33 I am now getting 3010 fps.

The gun was new when I started and I'm still running tests so I think I'm going to be able to raise it up a bit when I start testing with HBN.

looks like there is about 6 of us loading for the 338/378 weatherby .Lets keep the loads coming .:Dgun)

Another 338-378 shooter here. I've only had mine for one season, a factory Accumark 26". The first load I worked up was with 250 Accubonds and H1000. Settled on 107.0 grains at 3.800" and I'm getting 2975 fps and accuracy around .5 or .6 moa. I've got some 300 grain Bergers and RL33 to play with this season. I really like this cartridge! My brother just picked up a custom 30-378 that I'll be loading for as well.

El matador you need to stretch the legs on that accumark it'll do it for you nice to hear another 338/378 owner out there!!:D

check back in this thread there is some loads for the berger ...with h1000 start a little lower and work up you can get those 300 grainers cookin pretty good out of a 26 " barrelgun)

That sounds like a good plan. I tested loads from 99 to 109 grains in my gun and never saw pressure signs. I didn't push it any further since groups were opening up. This was an easy load for me to work up since I just loaded to magazine length and shot different powder charges.

I started with the 250 accubonds since I had some on hand already, and shots beyond 600 yards aren't likely in my hunting area. I'd like to start shooting beyond 1000 on targets though, and I think the 300s will be perfect for that. If I can't get the RL33 to shoot I'll try the H1000, I've just heard great reports of velocity with the RL33.

The furthest I've shot this gun so far is 650 yards and it's producing 3-shot groups around 4". Not bad for a factory gun :)
