little barrel help

3rd gen AZ Native

I have been hunting coues for 52 years and lately most shots have been 200-350 yards. Couple years ago had a chance at 500 or more yards but had no one to spot for me so passed. Been using a 270 and shooting the Hornady 140 SST Superformance ammo. This ammo has been accurate out of my rifle and MV is 3100fps. My 2cents, take your present rifle and see if you can reliably hit a 6 inch steel at 400-500 yard. Ben Avery has steel hanging on the Rifle Silhouette range, believe they call it the Frank DeSomma memorial range. Going to be a stretch getting a rifle built, loads worked up, learning long range ballistics for your set up and getting in enough time at 600-700 yards to confirm your ability to stay inside 6 inch groups at that distance. Good luck and hope you find a nice buck.
