Lighter bullets in 308

I shot Nosler 125 BT through my 1-12" with no issues although it is slower twist. I doubt there will be any issues with Nosler's jackets in a 1-10".

Good input guys. I've never tried the hammer bullets, but sounds like I need to. Any powders that excel in these weight bullets? What about the stabilization issue?

With the 125gr and 130gr bullets that I've used in .308, .30-06, .300 Savage, .300 Win Mag, and .30 Herrett I've never had a problem with stabilization 1-12" to 1-10" twist seem to work just fine... Overall my .300 Win Mag was probably the most accurate with those bullet weights'..., actually, it was very accurate with them. As for powder; pretty everything within reason works, with light bullets, just don't go crazy on the velocity end just because you can push them... Good luck.

Nosler TSX and the TTSX 110gr and 130grs work great combined with H4895, which you can reduce the loads down to 60% of max. Between those two options you should be all set.

No problem with stabilization or over-stabilization of the Hammers. As long as you are at or faster than what Hammer recommends, you will be good to party. Steve at Hammer will have good input on recommended powders as well.

I loaded for youngsters Ruger Hawkeye Compact Rifle, 16" barrel .308. I went with Federal 215 primers, 130 grain Shock Hammers. 3000+ fps. A good load out to 400 yards. It grouped sub MOA, and I didn't shoot it after handing it back. Sweet little set up I could find use for myself.

The 124 Hammer Hunter is a good choice.

I have another youngster shooting the 143 Lever Hammer from my Ruger No. 1 also mild recoil, and if range isn't long could be a viable choice as well.

Any one of these is adequate for game larger than deer.

Always good to see someone bringing in a new shooter, and respecting their limits.

So I just talked to Brian at hammer bullets. Super nice guy and very helpful. He said 124 hammer hunter over tac or h335 would get me 3000fps and still light recoil. Think that's the route I'm going to go. Thanks again guys.

If you don't have those powders, any med burn rate powder will get you there. I have used Varget, H4895, RL15, IMR4320 in loading for my wife with 165, 150, and 130TTSX's. The 308 is not usually very fussy.

There have been MANY great reports on the Nosler 125gr Ballistic Tip for use in the .308 win, particularly when recoil needs to be moderated.

I suspect it would be a very effective bullet on whitetails. They also have a 125gr Accubond bullet for those who just want something a bit more stout.

Used these on Aussie game including pigs to 100pound I guess.

Yes, I messed with that for my brother's .308 is ihas Sharp Recoil. That 4835 is our Aussie made AR2206H . The technical department will happily verify that it can safely be used at 60% of a max load
