I know the VX5HD has very clear and bright glass and an excellent FOV. How does it compare to a Nightforce NXS? I never had any tracking issues with my VX5HD but most people say get a NF. Thoughts between these two scopes?

NF does have better tracking but VX5 has better glass. I'm a big fan of the Mark 5 3.6-18x44 as it seems to have better tracking than the other Leopold scopes, better glass than the NXS and pretty light weight for the class it's in.

Ive got a Mk5HD 3.6-18 on my 7mm STW. Excellent scope a piece of art actually but my non scientific low light test didn't show much brightness difference than the VX5HD. The Mk5 hd has better sharpness around the edges and its in a totally different class as far as dialing than the VX5 HD but the VX5 HD glass is right there with the Mk5 and the VX5HD has a wider FOV.

Seems pretty apples to oranges. Heavy tactical scope vs a light weight hunting scope. Seems like a fair comparison would be a nightforce NXS to a leupold mark 5 or maybe a vx5 HD to another sub 20 ounce $800 optic? I don't know what would be, but you're comparing two things that are not all that similar.

Better glass on the vx5 hd and vx6 hd. Better tracking in the NXS. Both are kind of subjective but weight and price are not similar.

I have the tikka t3X ctr in 6.5 C and just last week put the VX5 on it and I like it alot. I have nightforce on other rifles (much larger calibers) and have no complaint there either. I also just put my CTR in a Bell and Carlson stock what a different rifle...

^^^ This

... and for me personally, I would buy a Tikka (T3x sporter, not the chassis thing) for weight and accuracy and would not care to use a heavier scope. I love my VX5HD 3-15x44 and do not own the NF NXS for whatever that is worth.

nxs vs vx6hd. I sold my nxs in favor or my vx6. I loved my nxs but overall use of the scope favored the vx6 and I didn't see myself going to back to the nxs. I have no experience yet with the 5 but so far everyone is saying its the same glass. For hunting use I'd be headed toward the lightweight end of things and that is leupold, zeiss, swaro.

I have and use leupold scopes for ever and they all have work just fine, but saving my money for NF 3x15. It will interest to see how it works out. Getting close to having another rifle built and extending my range out to 700 yds. Nothing bigger than wolves.
