I have only been on here for short while, I have not seen anyone talking or using Leupold scopes. Like I said, I have only been on here for a little while and I am sure I may be missing something, a majority of my scopes are leupolds and I like them a lot. I will be in the market for a new scope soon and want to pick the best choice for me. longest shot I will be taking is around 500 yards. I am using a r700 in 30-06 and I am saving up for an action job and new barrel, then it will be scope time. wanting to stay around 700ish for a scope, I know it isn't a huge budget, but I will not be shooting 1000 yards or anything like that. any suggestions or thoughts on scope brands

folks tend to go for the "esoteric" models, all for various reasons...

The euro scopes have great glass (definitely better than Leupold or Nightforce), but internals are weaker in most instances, and service can be harder to obtain.

There are some great scopes out there being made by small companies, and God bless them for making what they do, and hanging in there so far... "so far," being the operative phrase.

We are living in a world with an imploding economy, and it's getting worse--not better; don't be fooled.

So it's wise to consider the staying power of an optics company before you plunk down a lot of cash for something that might not have a "daddy" in a few short years...

Leupold has the most staying power of any optics maker out there right now. Are their scopes the best? No, not really. But their scopes are very good--more than good enough, and you'll be a lot more likely to find Leupold in business in a half dozen years than you will to find many of the smaller scope makers peddling 3000 dollar scopes. Not just my .02... but in in the inimitable words of Jack Webb... "just the facts." ;)

now... here it comes.... :D

but someone's gotta say it... :) just like someone's gotta be wrong and tell me I'm full of it. :) but that's what draws us to internet forums, at least in part. :)

Welcome to LRH and enjoy! Like you, most of my scopes are Leupold and it has served me very well on various hunting/shooting conditions for many years.

For a $700 scope, checkout the Sightron SIII SS 6-24X50 LR Riflescope | Western Shooter. If you shop around, you can get it for that price. There are plenty of happy owners here with very positive results. I too am saving up for a scope (similar budget) for an upcoming project build and it'll be a Sightron.

Good luck!

Ed

look at the pst 4-16 sfp. it runs 699. leupold make a decent scope but a 1100 dollar leupold is the same quality at a 700 dollar vortex/sightron

If you have a Leupold can send to the custom shop for M-1 Turrets you might already have what you need.

For 500 yards any decent VX III will work fine.

OP has a $700 budget. Let's stay on topic.

For $499 you can buy a 3-9 x 40 Zeiss Conquest and you'll like it better.!

I would be game for trying a zeiss but I don't know much about them, lifetime warranty? adjustable/custom turrets? I would like to have around a 4-16 or something close. I would also like adjustable turrets. I do like the thought about Leupold being here in 10 plus years, I have only had to send 1 scope back and it was fixed quickly and shipped back with a new scope cover, so, they get an A+ in my book for that.

Leupold VX-III 4.5-14x40mm Long Range Scope Fine Duplex Reticle VX-3 & 30mm ring.

I just found this scope on EBAY, it does not look like it has the target turrets, could this be added? it does have the side focus that I wanted.

You can send it to Leupold and have turrets installed. I have the same scope and had them installed on it. i think it was around $125 or so.
