Let's create new USER TITLES for LRH

Just an observation but I think more of the members than to believe that they
think that "any" title given on this web site ranks them in there ability, knowledge
or skill with a weapon.

If it bothers everyone then do away with it all together.

I don't mind the "Me Too's or the +1's because it confirms that more than one person
feels the same about a question that was ask.

The best way to learn is to get as many responses as possible and wade through the
BS and the best answer will be clear given some thought.

To be honest I did not know how I became a senior member. (I Though it was my age)
certainly not my prowess with the computer or my spelling.

Like BB I finally have more time to spend on things (After working all my life) and enjoy
this web site. And I sometimes post just to revive a good thread.

How about...

Tiny Member
Little Member
Big Member
Huge Member

:D

sorry, had to do it

I think some guys put too much into post counts. Like the guys before me have stated, some become post whores just to get the number up.

Quality over Quantity

Couldn't resist. :D:D

Currently there are 3 different USER TITLES that depend on the number of posts a member makes.

They are:
  • Junior Member - (0 posts)
  • Member - (30 posts)
  • Senior Member - (100 posts)
Let's come up with some better USER TITLES. And I think we need 2 more, higher post count TITLES for 500 and 1,000 posts.

What are your suggestions?

In my eyes, a user post count indicates two things. 1: How dedicated one is to LR hunting/shooting and 2: How long they have been around the site. Most active long term users will average .75-1.25 posts per day with some exceptions. You have BB who has many many posts. He obviously is very obssesed about this sport and sharing his opinions on his experiances along with a sense of humor. Then you have guys like me who dissapear for a year at a time and then cram course for a year but my count shows that I am a concistent participant scince I became a member which shows a level of dedication. What our post counts DO NOT show is our merit or any lack of merit.

How about we let the post count speak for themselves and recieve a "title" from a pre-set list that is chosen for us by our peers. Users can be promoted or demoted based on knowledge, usable insight and attitude. Of course Len would have the ability to change our peer given "merit" title.

Rather than focus on post count, what if like BB said, we have a yardage club or animal symbols or something.

500+, 750+,1000+,1250+,1500+
this could be followed by a varmit symbol, or sheep, deer, elk, ect.

Granted some guys may boast there status, but like Kevin said, wade through the BS and some of them will be easy reads.

This is a very good discussion. I thought it would be interesting to see a list of users above 500 posts. This list represents guys who have contributed a HUGE amount to the extent of the knowledge base on this forum. I had to manually type the list or I would have gone farther down in post count.

I am still leaning toward continuing to use post count to establish User Group names as a means of recognizing their contribution to the site. But we would need more User Group names and new ones that have something to do with hunting or shooting.

I had originally thought the "senior member" thing was related to how long a person had been registered on the site as opposed to how many posts a person has made.

Each users post count is already shown when a person makes a new post, along with the "Join Date:" and "Location:":

Join Date: May 2007
Location: VICTORIA AUSTRALIA
Posts: 628

This pretty much says it all from a post count standpoint.

I have seen a metric on another site that shows "Total time logged in:".

That is an interesting metric that could be used to generate some type of group name. Just a thought.

Post count may also imply that someone is dedicated to the sport and has a lot of questions, that they are trying to learn all they can (like me), as opposed always supplying answers ...

Here is a list I cooked up. I ran out of synonyms and had to resort to German. Perhaps some of the other nationalities have terms that I am not familiar with

100 Pilgrim
500 Pioneer
1000 Nimrod
2000 Scout
3000 Jaeger
4000 Hunter
5000 Guide

IMHO post count is about the best way to separate users. I like the idea of using distance kills (admittedly I would be pretty low on the totem pole lol!) but the truth is that it is impossible to verify and will mean little (only because it can't be verified). The true judge of the quality or "seniority" of a member will simply take time. There are a few people here that post very little, but after reading their threads and kinda getting to know them, I trust the accuracy and quality of the advice that they give. It takes time, and will be up to everyone to make these decisions themselves. A web forum is an excellent source to get information from, but when it counts you must always look to back it up with an outside source.

If you want to really check up on a guy then you have to option to look at their profile and see if they are a swat team member, professional competitor, master gunsmith, or a simple construction worker as I am ;)

Still a great site len!

Warning! This thread is more than 16 years ago old.
It's likely that no further discussion is required, in which case we recommend starting a new thread. If however you feel your response is required you can still do so.
