Let's build a sub moa rifle for deer size game that will help others save miney

Agree with this. I Also have a howa 308 sporter stainless that is very well made. The trigger isn't bad either. It is still in its houge stock that is pillar bedded.

TC338, would you mind sharing your load combo? I could not find a combo that mine really liked with h4895, but went to 42 gr of h4064 with flat based 165 partitions at 2.875 oal and in tightened up to .5-.75.

Mine really likes the 150g ballistic tips over 45g of Varget. Bullets are seated.010 off the lands. Too long to fit in my factory mag box but I'll take the trade off for the accuracy. This load chronoed at 2735 going through my RCBS chrono.

Thanks! yes the throat is long on the howa's it seems, i'll try to seat some close like you did, at least for target/first shot. I've heard varget is great for 308, I like ballistic tips too have several boxes of 165s, but will get some 150s and try them. Thanks again and Merry Christmas to all.

Mine shoots the 165 silver tips good as well. If you have not done it, make sure and bed the action and float the barrel. Mine went from 1.5" groups to sub .5" after changing to a laminate stock, bedded, a timney trigger, and hand loads. Mine is the 22" sporter contour so it heats up fast, only shoot 3 shot groups.

thanks, yes mine is same contour, and I did bed the action in the original houge stock and is free-floated. The trigger is ok for me stock, since is only a east Tennessee hunting rig. I bet if I had more magnification than 9x I could get a few tenths more, but think i'll stick with the vx-1. I will try my current load out closer to the lands and see what happens, and get some 150 BTs.

bottom line I agree the howa can be a good option if you get a good deal on one, they are well made but not as many accessories as several other brands since in the US they aren't as common (well they are same as entry level vanguard)

Well I will here some won't like this but I just got a weatherby vanguard accugaurd . Shoots sub moa out box stainless with all the extra stuff 1100 on sale $800 . And vortex scope list 800 sale 500.00 300 win mag $1300 total
Well done, let us know how it shoots.
