Believe it or not I've shot exactly one coyote. Happened while elk hunting, so rifle was savage long range hunter in 300 win, 225 eld m handload. Overkill? Yes, but also not as fast killing as what I've seen the fast 20-25 calibers with varmint bullets kill. Chest shot around 400 yards, and the thing ran about 60 yards after getting hit. Just punched a .30 cal hole it seems.

Mine was a tried and trued Rem 700 action with X caliber CF barrel in 22 Creedmoor shooting 60 gr bullets (nosler partitions) a few run but that is why I take the dog with me He likes it better when I just wing em anyway.

What kind of dog do you have that enjoys that kind of work, and isn't there a real risk of rabies or some other fatal canid disease being transmitted in that fight? I've always wondered that when I've seen people use dogs on yotes
