How do these older version Leicas compare with say a new model Bushnell 1500? What I am concerned about is consistently being able to range out to 1000 in different light/weather conditions.

Im afraid I cant answer that,its the only long range rangefinder Ive used so I have no experience to compare it to.I used it to mark out the 600yd distance at some of our shooting spots.I tried it at different ranges and dont ever really remember a problem getting it to read out to 1000yds,I suppose it depends on the target being ranged.
