Check out codyadams build. Yours sounds like a great build. Dont let anyone tell you its a bad idea, not everyone has the same preferences. I have a 26" 300prc imp. and have a blank that will finish 20-22" to get chambered in the same caliber. Saying you should build a smaller caliber is going to be even slower than your initial target so go for it
