The only way it can possibly be inconsistant is for the user to be inconsistant but no trimmer can be consistant with an inconsistant operator.

That way you don't have to keep switching stems in the cutter. This is cheap and will stop the inconsistencies that come from switching every time you change to a different cartridge.
