Least accurate gun

A post '64 model 70 Winchester 30-06. As the barrel would heat it shot all over the place. A gunsmith said glass beading would fix it, but it didn't.

As a new rifle the least accurate was a Tikka T3 lite stainless in 223 "only" doing 1" groups. CZ, Remmy and Howa made it down to 1/4 - 1/2".
I think the barrel quality of new standard rifles is very good just the bits around need improving, like stocks and triggers.
When it comes to all year reliability my custom match barrel shines as it doesn't seem to worry about clean or dirty, cold or hot barrel.

Weatherby Mark 5 in 300 wby. Couldn't get it to group under 2" with anything I put through it.

After free floating the barrel, glass bedding, floating the action screws, fire lapping the barrel, changing to Norma brass, and extensive hand load work-up it would do sub MOA.

Also, the SKS put out 6" - 8" groups on a good day.

Had a couple 22LR's that didn't shoot well. I have shot a NEF Handi Rifle with the switch barrels that I could practically push the bullet down the bore. It was horrible. 50yds was about the max effective range for its rifle barrel. The 22LR barrel wasn't bad and obviously the shotgun barrel didn't really matter. Had a Springfield Custom Carry 45ACP that didn't shoot very well either. Though I am going to blame age and a lack of experience with that pistol for its in accuracy.

Ruger, Their customer service says if it can shoot 1" @ 50 yards it is good enough to leave the factory.
Even the newer Ruger rifles which are better I think than the older ones are kept to this same accuracy standard.
No wonder people are buying other brands more, at least around here!

Not my rifle but a friend bought a Ruger 77 tang safety in 270, about 3" would be it's best group. The chamber was way out of line with the bore, and you could not load anywhere near the lands. I dropped a bullet into the chamber and found the lands about 1 1/2 inches down the bore.

I had a 223wssm from the first run, it shot 4" groups at 25 yards, and would not keep 5 on a 16x16 paper at 100. Sent it in and they rebarreled it, shot 4-5" groups with every load but one, 53gr tsx, into consistent 1" groups at 100 yards.

I "owned" at one time a bunch of Ruger rifles until I bought a v/t 26" M77 in .22 PPC.
I sent it to them twice because the best it would group was 1 1/4" at 100 yards no matter what load or combo I put through it.
The last time they returned it to me they sent it with a TGT showing 1/2" 3 shot 50 yard group.
I called them back and was asking why they would send a Varmint/Target rifle in a .22PPC which at that time was the 2nd most accurate round out there going.
I would have kept it and leave it in the safe as I had a T/C contender in 16" .25-35 that would shoot if I held tight 3/4" to 1" at 100yards.
I sold this rifle and all the others plus hand guns made by SR and sold them after talking with their "customer Service" rep that informed me that this was THEIR standards and to live with it!
Now mind you I am normally a pretty level headed guy but after hearing this bunk and by the way the last time it was returnd the action screw heads were buggered up badly that I lost it and sold the several dozen Rugers I owned.
Yes some I regret getting rid of just because of the calibers but it just burned my butt!
I only own one now and it was a gift from an old friend of mine, a .25-06 all weather that shoots about like a bolt action Ruger shotgun I mean rifle does with all the tight and lose spots in the bore but it was a gift. So if I ever get into Flock shooting Deer this thing may get the call, LOL
I did shoot a newer .243 m77 about a year ago it was a youth model that in all fairness shot ok not great but ok.
Well this is a my tale of woe.
My word I wished I had known what the price of that .22 PPC would be going for now I would have kept it, oh welllightbulb

Another vote for the Ruger Mini 14.

Mine was the Stainless Ranch Rifle with scope. I didn't keep it any longer than 3 boxes of ammo. First couple of shots (cold barrel) would hit where I aimed, but once the barrel warmed up, it wouldn't even hit a 12" X 12" rifle target at 200 yds............Let the barrel cool and same thing again, first few shots just right, then who knows where after that.

What good is a semi-auto 223 that only shoots where it's aimed for 2 or 3 shots?

Quickly went down to a local shop and traded it for a well used remington 700 22-250.

Sako 75 300 WSM. Shoots patterns not groups. Have played with loads and everything imaginable for many years. Ive had buddys who are accomplished shooters give it a whirl and the same results. So off to Sulli it goes for a new barrel or whatever he finds. I wouldnt buy another one if it was half the price. ***. I have buddies with Remingtons straight off the shelf and half the price that shoot circles around that rifle.

If it's a new gun out of the box I don't believe it . I own several Sakos and they all shoot great . Sounds like an add for Remington .

Why can't you beleive that any given manufacturer might turn out the occasional lemon or star?

I've had 2 terrible Weatherby's. But, that doesn't make them all bad.

I also had a Savage 222 that was 1.25" on a good day.

A lot of it is luck of the draw when it comes to factory production rifles.

When you go with something like Cooper or Gunwerks they pay a little extra attention to make sure the end result is what you expect before the rifle ships.

Amen to the Mini 14 --- was Hands Down the worst followed by 2 more Ruger Products. The #1 in fact 2 examples would shoot a pattern not a group...

Mine was a Ruger #1 in 300 weatherby. Couldn't find a relaod that it liked. Sold if after a couple Months. Had trigger problems with it also.

Sounds like alot have had problems with Rugers!

I think maybe back in the 60's-70's they made some good rifles from time to time though. My old Swift was made in 73, here's just a few of the targets I kept while developing loads for it.
