the jump between the bullet and the lands varies greatly with the caliber. My 22 centerfire guns are all loaded with the bullets less than .005", and usually under .002". My 6mm's is pretty much the sameway. My 30 caliber stuff seems best under .015", but then again I'm not trying to make bug holes either. A lot of it depends on how the throat is cut, and the round itself. My .270 mag has a lot of free bore in it, so I just seat the bullets to the max length of the magazine and hope for the best.
