got my first deer of the year.

get my first deer in almost 3 years.

it was a by permit only for disabled sportsmans, any legal weapon hunt in central/north eastern North Carolina

they (NC wildlife commission folks) got us all to our designated blinds by 10:45 am this morning. figured i wouldn't see any bucks or anything really till about dusk.

well after seeing a couple wild turkeys, and a couple spiders fighting the wind to make webs, approximately 6:45pm, a doe came staggering out of the wood line.

the first 10ish seconds after she came out, she gave me the perfect broad side shot.

but by the time i settle in and relaxed (5-10 seconds after that) the was slightly quartering away.

sent my hand loaded 110gr accubond her way. hit her mid shoulder and it exited out on yhe outer edge of her other shoulder.

left a good blood trail, found her piled up about 60 yards away from where i shot her. pulled the heart, no damage so it was a lung shot

big shout out to the NC Wildlife folks that helped put this on and helped us.

they skinned, and dressed this sucker out with such speed and finesse.

AR15, put together around a AR-performance 18" 6.8 SPC II barrel, CMMG 2 stage trigger, vortex 2-7 scope

110gr accubond
27.5 (or 26.5)gr RL10x, i'll have to check my notes but if memory serves me correct that charge puts it round 2600 FPS
Federal SRP brass
CCI 41 primer

Outstanding! Those 6.8 rounds are a deer's nightmare. I shot one for a while in a Encore 15" pistol. Never had a deer walk off from a hit.
Enjoy your venison. That great the Wildlife group helped dress out the deer. Good photos also.

Congratulations for a good shot and a memorable hunt. 👍

Congratulations

Congratulations, great shot!

Thanks fellas. Not gonna lie, I was worried it pulled the shot.

Great story, Backwoods! Thanks for sharing.

This sounds like it was a meaningful hunt, all the way around.

Good job! Glad it worked out for you. Great time to be putting deer in the freezer, with food/meat prices going up.

Congrats on meat for freezer, nice blind set up. I also have put in for disabled hunts in Ohio, no luck this year. Just bought a side of beef 1700.00 would rather have deer.

Thanks fellas, first ever public land harvest in the 6 years I've been hunting lol. But I told myself and my wife this year I got to get on the ball with hunting as meat prices have just plum gotten outrageous

@Charles Keethler - that's a lot but i bet you got a lot. not to get too off topic but i just can't justify spending a lot money on guided hunts when i'm a meat hunter.

Thank you good sir. But you're correct, and that's why I continue going back to my 6.8 when hunting season comes around. I like the 120gr SST, the 115gold dot (federal fushion factory rounds) and the 90gr gold dot (both factory loaded and hand loads) but the 110gr accubond (which I just love the performance on game and paper) just does the job the best so no reason to really go with anything else for my hunting rounds.
