Is it worth it to put the money into a rem 788?

I am trying to resist.....
But then again, if I remember, I gave about $149 for this rifle new with a universal 4x scope. Between me, my dad, and my oldest son, we have had this thing for almost 50 years, so it is a family heirloom. This is getting interesting.

My dad and I both bought 788's in 308. Both had a universal 4x scope. We both killed many deer and coyotes with those guns. We paid $100.00 each. Dad gave me his rifle before he passed away. My son has it now. My youngest brother bought one that was left handed. Will keep mine forever.

I have use for my 788 so I will hang on to it for a while before passing it down. I gave my oldest son my Marlin 39 Century Limited a few weeks ago, and my next son will get the Browning (Belgium) SA 22 and a Marlin 336 the next time I see him. Got several more heirlooms to pass down. I want to get them passed down before the grandkids buy their own so they will be used.
