Since hotdogs are meat, and sandwiches are named by the meat between or in bread, a hotdog in bread should be called a hotdog sandwich because like other meats they can be eaten without bread.

So, the window sticker is wrong.

I'm going with sandwich…but only when eaten with a bun. Otherwise, it's just a hotdog.

A hot dog is a weenie on a bun.

A weenie by itself, is not a hot dog.

It can be called a lot of things…. Weenier on a bun, weenie sandwich, tube steak sandwich, dog, hot dog, Etc etc.

To prove my logic , let's use the chilli dog for evidence. A chilli dog consists of more than a weenie and chili. By definition, a chillie dog is a weenie, on a bun, with chilli.
If a weenie were a hot dog all by itself, then a chilli dog would consist of a weenie and chilli. And that would be about as F'd up as a soup sandwich.
So here we have irrefutable proof that a hot dog is weenie+bun. And a weenie by itself is nothing more than an oddly shaped piece of meat with both TIPS being uniform in shape.
I case my rest.

I always keep a can of spam or two and some Vienna sausages in dry storage on my boat for emergency rations. You just never know. Might keep someone from having to eat a Seagull one day.

Now a full fledged CHICAGO DOG is an American institution like a Hot Dog during a Baseball Game.. But a Ring of Red and a Loaf of Bread is a sandwich, hot or cold. JMHO.

When my wife was married to her first husband they had a special needs boy when they went somewhere to eat he would always tell the waitress to bring him a hot dog every time they ate out

Thats neat. So simple, so functional. It gives me pause. We must think of all manner of men, not just the high and mighty as we embark upon this wurst of journeys.
