input on stocks please

Hey all, I have a bell and Carlson m40 stock now. And looking for something with more of a vertical grip and adj cheek peice. I know there are plenty going for 1000$ new but they seem heavy to me! I want to keep it light. Or should I not go with adj cheek and make my own piece out of some old horse tac gear I got laying around.? My wife loves the m40 stock and hates the vertical stocks so I'll use of on her gun build. Maybe you have one laying around I may be interested in. Its on a rem 700 action with heavy contour barrel smr bottom metal that uses accuarcy international 300 win deteatch mag.
Any advice would be great!!
