In anticipation of bear season

Just got back from a quick trip to Canukistan to visit relatives. The sign said "Slow Down Now Bears on Highway". I thought "right..."

But sure enough a couple miles down the road there they were eating dandelions and paying no attention to us.

Is the lighter one a grizzly? or a light-phase black bear?

Yes, the lighter one is a grizzly in Banff National Park.

Nice pics. Takes a lot of grass to fill up that gut.

They were chowing down on dandelions to the extent I asked my wife to get out of the car and get a close up. She declined....
