I found some cheap imr 5010 powder .I think I have seen loads for both the 338-378 Weatherby and the 264 win mag.I have used reloader 25 and H-870 in both. The 338-378 likes the reloader 25 best.I think the H-870 was made for the 264 win mag.I was just wondering its a good deal if I can use it.I have some H-870 for my 2644 but it wont last forever!

IMO 5010 is to slow for your 338 unless your using 300 grain bullets and have a 30 inch or longer barrel. I have it's little brother the 30-378. In my experience shooting 30 cal. 240 gr. SMK's the slowest powder I could us was 8700 and that's even slower than the old H870.

I really believe that your speed would drop off even with cases full of powder.

dgr416,
Since you're not getting much response to your thread, I thought I might chime in here. You are correct in that 5010 will work well in a .264WM. I am away from my home right now, so I can't provide any loads, however, old Speer manuals do have loads for 5010 in the .264. A newer powder that seems to work well with 140 gr. pills is Ramshot Magnum. Also, H870 is discontinued, but Hodgdon has just introduced US 869, which might be able to replace H870, but is supposed to be cleaner and more temperature stable. This information applies only to the .264. I don't know anything about the 338-378. Good luck!
