IMR 4064 in .243

been 20yrs since I've been loading, but used to load for some ATF guys, 2 police departments, plus some at another town.
loaded custom stuff, plinking, about 89 different calibers
Looks like we live right by each other. I'm going to use the 243 for deer as well. Looking at the 100gr. interlock. Basically trying to do it all from Chucks to bucks with one caliber.

was considering Sierra 85hpbt also

I'm a little partial to Sierra and Berger so I would pick the Sierra over Hornady for any serious work like deer hunting. Just be sure to get the game king 85'ers.

On a different note you should be able to push a 95-100 grain bullet to 3000fps pretty easy in a 243 if that's the reason your looking more at 85gr range.

I can get to 3100 with 105gr bullets out of my 22" barrel. I have my 95gr load "lighter" at 3015fps to save the barrel a little.

One of my best loads for 243 was 4064 and a 87 grain bullet.
I have loaded some 10 different 3 shot groups for my Rem. 700!243 with A24"'barrel. I have not found A group that I am satisfied with. I get 2 in almost the same hole then get A flyer that is about 3/4" away.

I no longer load the 87 grain. But I'll check my notes, and see if I can help. I switched to the 105 grain Barnes and 4451.

Any other ideas in powder choices? My chamber is 2.815"
I am loading to 2.800"
Have loaded starting at 2.750" & up to where I am now. I also have A neck sizing bushing I am using .002 less than loaded round.
Any other help wiuld be great!!

I got my first chuck using my reduced 243 load, 13.5 gr blue dot under 55gr dog town sp, cci 200 starling brass, fantastic! little louder than 22mag

no problem with the neighbors, even tho they are ok with shooting here. still thinking about load for my deer killing. I have 1 factor box of winchester 95gr & 17 rds of winchester 100gr sp yet

I even gave thoughts of partitions or a grand slam, I could be doing 300-400 yrd shot. I have other rifles that will do anything out 500+, but want to play 243 now.lol even my 7mm STW, 850yrds no problems

In 243 dia nosler makes 3 different weight partitions 85,95& 100 Barnes makes their 85 tsx,Swift makes their 90 gn Scricco , lots of good choices ...... That 87 V/Max can kill coyotes at over a 1,000 yards it should have no problem taking a deer ? What say you Guys? Never shot them , thks
