If you had to have only three?

While the OP is from December 2014, my choices haven't changed since 1989......22 LR, .223 Rem., and .375 AI. Working just as good now as in 1989! 😉 I guess that I only need two centerfire rifles! 😁 memtb

Nope, none of those old rounds can be let down or ignored, the .30-06 is going to be 109yrs old and is still one of the most popular cartridges around. The .270 emerged in 1925 and also remains one of the top sellers, seems like shells come and go, but the ol' tried and true ones stand their ground.
With that and the 45/70 it's age defying!

22-250 (Grandpa's rifle)
.270 Win (Great Uncle's rifle)
300 RUM (Rifle my Dad built for me)

I'd love to include a 338 Terminator or 338 Allen Mag in this list. Unfortunately, this public servant will never be able to make that happen. I think my Dad would get a kick shooting one of these amazing firearms.

Depends on if it is 3 rifles for North America or 3 rifles for the world.
For North America: .223
.264 WM or 6.5 PRC
.300WM

For the World: .223
300WM
375 Ruger

223/556
308/7.62
30-06 or 300wm???

My picks aren't based off of the best ballistic performers per se but more so versatility and ability to find ammunition. I'm undecided between the 30-06 and 300wm.

I have three switch rifles that shoot seven different calibers , that count?????

- Standard bolt - shoots 22 Creedmoor, 6 Creedmoor and 7 SAW.

- Mag bolt - 6.5 SAUM and 300 Sherman Short

- Lapua bolt - 300 Norma Mag AI and 338 Warthog (Robert Gradous 338 Norma Mag 40° Imp.) just about to ship from LPR
