I think I screwed up my pillar bore

Reminds me of an old quote that one of my former bosses told me.
"The difference between and amateur and a Professional is that while both know where the mistakes are, only the amateur points them out."
 
Doweling and trying to re-drill a new hole for the pillar is unlikely to succeed well and is unnecessary.

Just set 'em in oversized holes with epoxy. Wrap the studs/action screws with tape for a snug fit centering them in the pillars for equal clearance all around, be sure to coat the insides of the pillars with release agent first.
