How many 30 calibers do I really need?

I've had plans to build a new 300 PRC for a year or more now and I'm not sure what use it will have?

Right now I've got
1. A heavy 13lb tactical 308 shooting 168smk at 2815 and 175 smk at 2760 it's a fun gun to shoot all day and not get beat up or feel like you are burning a hole in the wallet.

2. A light weight 6.5lb carbon fiber barreled 300 wsm. That I haven't even shot yet but my plan is to shoot 208 eldm out of it. It's built on a Tikka so the OAL can be up to 3.3" the barrel is 22" I'm thinking in the neighborhood of 2800-2850 fps with the 208's.

3. A heavy 13lb 300 prc that is patterned after Chris Kyle's famous 338 Lapua. I built it because I thought it would be cool but I haven't shot it yet either.

4. A mid weight 9lb 300 win mag that is just an all around good hunting rifle. Shooting the 212 eldx at 2950.

I was planning to build a mid weight 300 prc for all around hunting needs to replace the 300 win mag. I've got a couple barrel options to choose from and I'm kinda stuck not knowing exactly what I want. I have a 26" sendero contour proof carbon 1-10" twist if I decided to go lighter weight. But the stock I have planned for it is an adjustable game warden and it weighs almost 3lbs. Seems like a waste to but a carbon barrel on a heavy stock. I also have a Bartlein sendero contour 1-8" twist 27" stainless barrel that I had originally intended to use. This would probably make a rifle in the 10lb range and im not sure if want that either.

My question Is really how much difference is there between a 300 PRC a 300 win mag and a 300 wsm? If I build a 300 PRC with the proof barrel I'll probably find a different stock that weighs about 2lbs and have a 7lb rifle but that's so close to the 300 wsm is there really a reason to do it? If I go with the heavier barrel and a 10lb rifle results then it will be close to the 300 win mag and what use would there be for that? Should I just sell the other rifles and build a 300 PRC that'll fill the roles of both?
you answered your own question. if you r building a 10+ lb gun, step up to a rum , dakota, 338,378 or 300 weatherby. i have all you have and others, whay do i hunt with, my 300 wsm and 168 barnes ttsx at 3260. shoots. .5 moa at 300 yds kllls everything from small antelope to 1800 lb eland at over 600 yds. or my 28 nosler if i really want to reach out.

That doesn't sound like fun, and guns are fun! Always just one more, unless you're giving one to me. Then you will need at least two more. Sorry, but you can always hear the opposite from your wife!
Oh contrare! As a reloader, I find the 6mm ARC & 6.5mm Grendel to be a lot of fun, Personally I find low recoil 6mm ARC with long sleek bullets to light fast or even, down loaded rounds. & now Im experimenting with Monolithic bullets. IMHO lots of fun & what's not to like.

Though I do entertain having multiple barrels for the same rifle most likely the same caliber though could be 7.62x39, 6.5 mm Grendel, 6mm ARC & I suppose a 22 Grendel or ARC could be in the mix of switch barrels.

Just one guys perspective of fun:)

I'm a huge fan of the 300 win mag. Ever since I saw the reamer specs of a 300 prc I've wanted one just because I won't have to deal with the belt and head space off the shoulder better.

I've had a 308 light weight built on a tenacity action/proof/ AG composite and I still wish I would of went 16" over the 22". My Prc build would be the same but keeping the barrel length 24-26 and do a bartlien carbon barrel.

200 eldx bullets do good on the 300wm but 212 would be better or even the 220 but you start to see fps losses where other big 30's can keep it going. I like the simplicity if I don't want to reload it I can buy ammo so the really wild cats were out for me. the 300 prc is a caliber you can still buy ammo for before it's almost $100 a box in the next big 30

30 cal ? gotta have them all mang !

I have these... (except for the PRC & Nosler) along with 30-30 Win, 30-30 AI, 308 Win, 30-06, and 5 wildcats

and there's room for a few more, 10 more or so

However many 30 calibers or any other weapons you have, make sure secure them in fireproof room. Most likely, you and the rest have primers in reloading room. In case of a house fire as long as there are cook offs the local FD may or may not get near the house on fire.

One of my shooting buddies lost over 90 collectible M1 Garands and other rifles when his caught on fire while he was in Kentucky on the way to Camp Perry, OH.

Samples of his lose.
