How far can you set back a carbon fiber barrel chamber?

I have a 280 AI carbon fiber barrel I got for free that has a gouge back about to the tenon shoulder. I'm not sure the history of the gouge as the guy that gave it to me didn't know anything about it either. It looks like something got shoved in there. I can only imagine what it was.
I build my own rifles and have threaded and chambered many barrel blanks.
Can I safely set the chamber back the length of the tenon (.885")? I'm just not sure how much metal is under the carbon fiber. Thanks guys!

Ummm... if it's a proof, they have those dimensions on their website.

Regardless, I would call the barrel manufacturer.

I wouldn't believe what you see on Proofs website...I know the picture they have/had showing a turned down blank before wrapping wasn't accurate at all...

It's a Christensen barrel. I can't find anywhere on Christensen's, Proof or Carbon 6 websites that show the dimensions of the underlying metal barrel.

They won't either...that's the "classified info" that they don't want people to copy...

Are you thinking about removing some of the carbon fiber and starting over?

No. I still have 2 inches of metal on the breach end. If it's doesn't have enough metal around the chamber to support the pressures of a 280 AI then I'll just cut it down the middle and see what the cross section looks like.
