I shoot better at longer distance. I think because I am better able to relax on the aiming and let the shot happen. At close range I have a harder time not trying to force the shot.
This is very true we get so hung up on trying to get the smallest groups as possible at 100 yards. I find my self getting very tense at 100 yards shooting at paper but I'm more relaxed when just ringing steel at 350+.
