How bad is the 7 backcountry?

Excellent new option, IF it shoots accurately. If all of the velocity claims end up holding water (looking at you hOrNaDy) and the cartridge is as easily reloaded as they say, the only issue I could ever see is lack of accuracy. I'm waiting to pass judgment completely until it proves itself in the field, be that proof of failure or proof of success.

I'm sorry I misquoted on the Sammi restriction, in the article I was reading they were talking using the new alloy in Sammi cartridges such as 6.5 creed and the ballistics that would come from 80000 psi in those cartridges.
From field and stream

Of course, Federal cannot just start offering SAAMI-approved cartridges with Peak Alloy cases loaded to 80,000 psi. SAAMI's current pressure restrictions on those cartridges prevent it, for one thing. That's why Federal created a whole new case for the 7mm Backcountry as opposed to using Peak Alloy cases with a SAAMI approved cartridge like the 280 Remington. To improve on the performance of some of the current brass-cased cartridges we're familiar with, Federal would have to create similar but new cartridges with different specifications in Peak Alloy cases. That said, I can't think of any reason why they wouldn't

Never underestimate the stupidity of marketing.

Federal has not proven to be a real player, but they seem serious. I think the dust needs to settle. *IF* this cartridge can do what they say it can do, it could be interesting. That will not happen today or even tomorrow, IMO. Could take 6 months to a Year to sort this out, so in the meantime some people still want to build rifles. Would be easy enough to re-chamber a 7 PRC into 7 Backcountry.🤔

Lookie here. LOL, just got a email.

I'm not arguing anything....all I am saying is they need to come up with something that truly steps up and offers really significant gains over the current technology. From what I read it doesn't really do that at all. Maybe someday? Just don't repackage the wheel and tell me it's way better. Got to hand it to the marketing guys though.
Continuing to ignore the facts to fit your agenda is ok. But you must realize you're wearing your ignorance on your sleeve haha. Anyone with logical sense can see you're just biased because you don't want to accept it. That's ok, in the real world it's not marketting its actually happening. Hahah
The new case is actually sending 170 grain projectiles 2920 out of a 16" barrel in a case thats like half the size of anything else that will do it. . It's not actually marketing haha.

A hug? Haha I get plenty of those. I'm already having a great day. I will not be spending money on it any time soon. Time will tell if it's worth it. But it's deff intriguing. I really do appreciate your opinion sir. It's fun debating new things.

Yeah, I've gotten a couple, not from Geissele, but one from Weatherby and one from another that slips my mind. Anyone can say they build 'em these days, you just change your webpage. LOL

I wouldn't doubt that there are some people that can just buy one because they can, but there's no reloading components AFAIK, no cases, no load data, it would be a real crap shoot to try and reload those Federal ammo cases, IMO. It would require much more than I could tell with my eyes. I think most people could work up some type of load. Just use Varget, if you believe the Internet. But this biggest question is what type of powder do you use? ;) The best I could do is try to open a cartridge and see if the powder looks similar to me. Other than that, base a starting load off a low velocity 7 PRC load...not sure as I have never done that and don't plan on it now. :)

Or, possibly, produce a head stamp of +P+ or similar like they due with their handgun ammo. There are no SAAMI specs for +P+, but yet, it is produced and sold. Then they could produce cases for reloading only.

The difference here is EuroOptic is selling them and taking your money. I assume they feel pretty confident.

Sure, anyone will take your money. I can build you one, just send me $3k and I'll start.

I have to believe people buying them are YouTube content providers. Otherwise, I don't see who would put their coin on the table. Until then, it should be coined "The P.T. Barnum Cartridge". ;)

And…… ya know they already succeeded with their marketing because we've all been talking about it ALL day!

They did get my attention. ;)

I don't know, I think this will open the door to new case materials for the future.
I personally see this as the "future"
Imagine new case materials that will allow the regular .223 or .308 rifles we currently own to be able to reach 80k psi or possibly even higher.
I foresee brass going by the wayside in our future.

100%!!! Others have mentioned this. Beginning stages of the "high pressure craze" is what another member said. Definitely not another hornady re-invention gimmick
